Celebrating 20 years of digital transformation

For 20 years, NHS Informatics Merseyside (IM) has partnered with health and care organisations to use technology, data and digital innovation to transform services, empower health and care professionals, and improve outcomes for the people and communities we serve across Cheshire and Merseyside and beyond.

Established on 1 October 2006 as the North Mersey Health Informatics Service, IM brought together local Information Management and Technology (IM&T) expertise to create a shared service with the scale, capacity and specialist skills needed to support an increasingly digital NHS. The original model was founded on collaboration, efficient use of resources and shared expertise, principles that continue to underpin the organisation today.

Over the following two decades, IM has evolved from a predominantly local IT support service into a leading NHS digital service provider. Hosted by Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust, IM now supports health and care organisations across Cheshire and Merseyside and beyond through a comprehensive portfolio of services, ranging from frontline IT support and digital infrastructure to strategic leadership, clinically led transformation, cyber security, information governance, interoperability, digital development, training, programme delivery and many other specialist digital services.

What began as an lT shared service has grown into an organisation of around 350 colleagues, supporting approximately 40,000 health and care professionals and playing a vital role in enabling the delivery of health and care services across Cheshire and Merseyside and beyond.

Throughout our anniversary year, we will be sharing the stories of the people behind our success, showcasing the dedication, expertise and achievements of the colleagues who make up Team IM and help us deliver digital transformation across Cheshire and Merseyside.
